Campaign: Abandoned cart

A filled shopping cart in a webshop is not always settled. One reason can be: (technical) malfunctions, but also that a shopping cart is used as a wish list or for price comparison. With an abandoned shopping cart campaign you stimulate the contact to still complete the sales process.

Research shows that the conversion rate on such campaign emails is no less than 28.3% the moment the received email is clicked through. So you're missing out on sales if you don't use an abandoned cart campaign. And once you have set up the campaign, you (almost) no longer have to worry about it.

Getting started

Spotler has a default template for an abandoned cart campaign. You can always expand or adjust the campaign flow as desired. The campaign flow of the abandoned cart template looks like this:
Example_template_Cart.png

Goal = Stimulate purchase
Trigger campaign
= The automatic campaign is activated as soon as your webshop has detected an abandoned cart. Your webshop notifies Spotler (via an external trigger). By means of a link with your webshop and Spotler, the product that has been left in the shopping cart can be shown in the message.
Campaign = After signaling an abandoned shopping cart, you send a message containing the contents of the abandoned shopping cart.

Information known from your potential customer
The abandoned shopping cart campaign can of course only be used when the data (read: email address) of the potential customer is known. This means that he/she must be logged in to your online store at the time of exit.

You go through the following steps when you use our standard template:

  1. Compose an abandoned cart message
  2. New automation
  3. Linking the abandoned cart in your webshop
  4. Publishing the automation

You use the following modules for this:

1. Compose an abandoned cart message

First, set up a message for your abandoned cart campaign. You can read exactly how to do this in the article: How do I compose an abandoned cart message?

Don't forget to set your campaign message to Final status, otherwise it will not be selectable in the editor.

2. New automation

You go through the following steps in the Automations module:

  1. Click on the yellow button New automation

  2. In step 1 you enter a name in the Properties, for example; Abandoned cart campaign.
  3. In step 2 you choose whether you want to make a choice from the default templates or a template that you have saved. By default, the choice is on Default templates. Click on the Abandoned Cart template and on Save & Next.

  4. In step 3, click on the blue Edit button to open the editor.
  5. The campaign flow is ready. It looks like this in the editor:

Trigger: External trigger. You use this code in your webshop so that your webshop can notify Spotler when the automatic campaign needs to be started.

    Permission required for the campaign
This campaign may only be triggered for contacts who have given you permission for the newsletter. You can't just send campaign messages to any random contact. By applying filters within your campaign, you ensure that only contacts with the newsletter permission are triggered in the campaign. You can read how to do this in the article: How do I apply a filter to a trigger, action or condition?

    Action:
A message will be sent immediately. The timing of the trigger depends on when your webshop marks a shopping cart as abandoned. You will see that the Send action is not yet fully set up. The correct message has not yet been selected. Click on the send action and then you can select the message you created earlier on the left.

The animation below shows the steps you take to complete the automatic campaign:

3. Linking abandoned cart in your webshop

Spotler needs a signal from your webshop to start the automatic campaign. Based on a campaign code, Spotler knows which automatic campaign should be triggered. You see this code when you apply an external trigger as a trigger. Such a code is therefore unique per automatic campaign and can be copied manually or retrieved with a Rest API.

Do you have a link with Magento 2? Then contact Spotler. For other links, please contact your Spotler partner.

4. Publishing automation

To activate the automatic campaign, publish it in the Publisher. You can read more about this in the article: Publisher
