Composing a message for the welcome campaign

The email message that has been added to the standard welcome campaign can be found in the module Messages. You can edit the message as you wish, or you can add new messages that can be used as follow-up emails in the campaign.

All messages you add to a campaign will automatically be transferred from the module Messages to Campaign messages in Spotler. This is to make sure a message is not accidentally deleted. The “Subscription confirmation” is already part of the welcome campaign and therefore cannot be found in Campaign messages.

Select Edit in the dropdown menu next to the message.

The inbox fields of the message appear. Make any changes you want and continue to the HTML version of your message by clicking Next. Here you can use the “Drag-and-drop editor” to make changes to the message. Click here to go to the module Messages description to learn more about the editor.

At the very least, add your own corporate styling elements and contact data to the subscription confirmation. In most cases your Spotler supplier has already done that for you. Some additional tips:

  • Personalized elements
It is a 1-on-1 message and you want to build a relationship with your new subscriber. Elements such as a salutation, a thank you, a closing and perhaps a personal discount or action will set the tone and in this way you will show how much you appreciate your new email relationship. Functions such as personalization, dynamic content and/or custom-made newsletters can help you achieve this.
  • Add to contacts
Give your subscriber the option to add your reply email address to their contacts. This increases the chances of a smooth delivery of future newsletters.
  • Profile enrichment
The welcome campaign is a good moment to get to know each other better. To provide your subscriber with some personalized info in future mailings, you could ask them to complete their profile by, for instance, specifying their interests. You can simply add a link to their existing profile page so they can do this.
  • Privacy
To gain your subscribers’ trust, it is wise to inform them how you are going to process their personal data.
  • Contact details
Show them that you are service-oriented and open for dialogue in this new email relationship. Therefore, always include your contact details so that you can easily be reached.
  • Service links
Always add an unsubscribe link and preferably also an edit profile link. In case they have subscribed by mistake, they can easily unsubscribe. This will prevent any negative experiences and will help you build an engaged target audience.

Composing follow-up messages

As mentioned earlier the first few days after the opt-in are important for building an email relationship. Click on the New message button in the module Messages to create a new message.

It doesn’t make any difference if you are composing a newsletter or a campaign email. It is done in the same way, which means you will go through the following three steps after creating a new message:

  1. Naming the message and selecting the message type Email.
  2. Filling in the inbox fields and the reply address.
  3. Creating the HTML version.

A more detailed explanation of these steps can be found in the module Messages. Suggestions for the extra campaign messages are:

  • Profile enrichment request (if you have not done so in the first message)
  • Information about your products and services
  • Knowledge sharing in your field of work
  • A special offer for newsletter subscribers
  • A social email: you can follow us on….
  • Events: workshops, trainings etc.
  • A survey to get their opinion on your newsletter, this can be done after a couple of months when they have received multiple newsletters

Test the messages you have created and change the message status to Final in the overview.

It is important that you change the message status to Final. If you forget to do this, you won’t be able to select the message in a campaign.
